THE BEAUTY OF BUILDING

Because when your work feels like joy, you’re already exactly where you’re meant to be.

When I first stepped into business ownership, I expected long hours, hard work, and exhaustion. And while there have certainly been long days, especially while balancing a full-time job, I can honestly say it hasn’t felt like “work.” Not even close. If anything, it has felt like stepping into something I was meant to do.

Of course, there are the less glamorous parts. The constant bucket cleaning. The water spills. The early mornings and late nights. But even those moments carry a strange satisfaction. They’re reminders that something is growing, literally and figuratively. One of the biggest surprises has been how deeply joy can be woven into labor. Our home smells like flowers. My vehicle smells like flowers. My hands often carry that same scent long after the day is done. It’s as if this business has gently infused itself into every corner of my life, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I’ve learned that when you truly love what you’re building, the exhaustion feels different. It’s not draining. It’s fulfilling. I can spend hours planning a party, selecting color palettes, imagining how arrangements will frame a room, and instead of feeling tired, I feel energized. There’s something incredibly special about watching an idea take shape, from loose stems and scattered greenery to a full, living arrangement that brings a space to life.

Seeing flower arrangements come together has taught me patience. Each bloom has its place. Each stem needs trimming. Each design requires intention. Rushing the process never produces the same magic as slowing down and letting creativity guide your hands.

Another lesson this journey has gently placed in front of me is the beauty of collaboration. Partnering with other small businesses has reminded me that growth does not have to be lonely. There is so much power in creating alongside others who are building something of their own. When we share ideas, support one another, and celebrate each other’s wins, everyone blooms a little brighter. Community over competition has become more than a phrase. It has become something I truly believe in.

I’ve also learned that passion makes room for persistence. Balancing a full-time job with building a business could easily feel overwhelming. But when you love what you’re doing, you make the time. You find the energy. You choose it again and again. More than anything, this journey has reminded me that work doesn’t have to feel heavy to be meaningful. It can smell like fresh blooms.

It can look like late-night design sessions at the kitchen table or sitting on the floor processing flowers. It can feel like stepping back from an arrangement and thinking, “I made that.”

Business ownership, for me, hasn’t just been about income or growth. It has been about joy. It has been about creativity. It has been about serving others during some of their most special moments, celebrations, gatherings, and milestones, and knowing that something I created gets to be part of that memory.

I’m still learning. I’m still growing. The fear may not completely disappear. But we keep moving forward anyway.

Because when your work feels like joy, you’re already exactly where you’re meant to be.
